Last Thursday (April 29), saw four students (Dylan Keane, Alyssa Carrall, Mia Jacobs and Jye Byfield) from Merriwa Central School attend the CHS Swimming Championships at the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre. This was the first time any student had swam or been to the complex and it was an eye-opening experience for all of them. The students represented the school proudly and showed excellent determination throughout their event.
The students swam in the Mixed Open Central Schools 4x50 Freestyle Relay against another ten central school teams. Merriwa Central School ended up placing 6th out of the 11 teams. The students were up against some much older competition and have done extremely well to place where they have. All students swam their personal best times and that is all that can be asked of them. Congratulations to Jindabyne Central School for taking out the event.
It has been a successful long season for the swimmers at Merriwa Central School and I encourage all students that are interested in swimming to join the local swim club next season to help build on the successes achieved in 2021.
