School events bring learning to life and help shape our school culture. They help students build confidence, connect with others and celebrate their progress. Events also give families a chance to be involved in school life and share in their child’s achievements.

October 2026
15 - 19 October 2026 - Interschools Horse Extravaganza
MCS is looking to enter a Team in the Interschools Horse Extravaganza Event at AELEC Tamworth. This is a Principal endorsed event and poses an Extreme Risk to any competitors. Attached to the permission note are the conditions of entry. Please ensure you read all documenation and sign the waiver attached.
21 October 2026 - NRL Beyond the Goalpost Referee Program
Selected students will participate in the NRL Beyond the Goalpost Referee Program, providing them with an opportunity to develop their knowledge, confidence and practical skills in Rugby League officiating.
This program will be presented at school - Online learning modules, face-to-face theory and practical referee development session.
19 - 22 October 2026 - Start Your Future - Cabinet Making Workshop
The Educational Pathways Program is funding a Cabinet Making Workshop, hosted at Merriwa Central School. The course will be run by a provider from TAFE NSW, giving students hands on and practical skills in construction.
22 October - Animal Care Course - Scone TAFE

Students will participate in practical demonstrations in the animal care industry, giving them the opportunity to participate in hands on activities to gain insight and knowledge.
23 - 25 October - Upper Hunter Beef Bonanza
Students will be exhibiting school steers at Hupper Hunter Beef Bonanza. Permissions are due 25 September.
30 October - Grandparents and Friends Day
November 2026
Students who have missed the February vaccination clinic are offered the chance of a catch up clinic on Friday 6 November at School.
Merriwa Central School is excited to host "When I Grow Up!", a fun and interactive workshop for students from Kindergarten to Year 2, presented by our Educational Pathways Program and facilitated by MCS Child Studies students.
We look forward to providing our youngest learners with an exciting opportunity to learn, imagine and start thinking about "What will YOU be when you grow up?"
Support students are invited to attend a Multi-Sports Day at Maitland Regional Athletics Centre.
Year 10 - Young people, alcohol and risk taking: Looking after your mates
This introductory session focuses on alcohol and attempts to debunk some of the myths in this area, particularly around how to look after someone who has drunk too much. Simple strategies to keep themselves and their friends safer when they are socialising will be provided to the students.
Year 11 - Alcohol and cannabis: What do you and your friends need to know?
This presentation reviews and builds upon the practical strategies introduced in the Year 10 session. Information on cannabis will be provided, once again focusing on 'positive norms'.
Students in Years 3 to 6 will travel by Cowans Bus from Merriwa Central School to Anna Bay area for and educational excursion to Stockton Sand Dunes
Merriwa Secondary Support Unit will be visiting Muswellbrook High School for an inclusive sports and games day.

Book Week - Little Sprouts Reading Day

Time: All day
Book Week is a special time at our school, celebrated through our Little Sprouts Community Reading Day. Students from Merriwa Central School join children from across the community to walk through town, visiting local businesses where community members read stories aloud. The day also includes visits to both the school library and the Town Library, helping foster a love of reading from an early age.

Time: Night performance from 6:00pm
Our annual Variety Night has always been held in conjunction with Education Week and is a spectacular night to showcase the talent and dedication of both students and staff.
Festival of the Fleeces

The annual Running of the Sheep is a community event that Merriwa Central School are proud to be a part of.
P&C meeting
Date: First Tuesday of every month
Time: 6:30pm
Join our vibrant P&C. Meetings are held Tuesday of every month within the term at the Merriwa RSL Club. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
