School events bring learning to life and help shape our school culture. They help students build confidence, connect with others and celebrate their progress. Events also give families a chance to be involved in school life and share in their child’s achievements.

Our school event may include:

25 September - Last Day of Term 3

Students will resume Term 4 on Tuesday 13 October.

15 - 19 October 2026 - Interschools Horse Extravaganza

MCS is looking to enter a Team in the Interschools Horse Extravaganza Event at AELEC Tamworth. This is a Principal endorsed event and poses an Extreme Risk to any competitors. Attached to the permission note are the conditions of entry. Please ensure you read all documenation and sign the waiver attached.

21 October 2026 - NRL Beyond the Goalpost Referee Program

Selected students will participate in the NRL Beyond the Goalpost Referee Program, providing them with an opportunity to develop their knowledge, confidence and practical skills in Rugby League officiating.

This program will be presented at school - Online learning modules, face-to-face theory and practical referee development session.

19 - 22 October 2026 - Start Your Future - Cabinet Making Workshop

The Educational Pathways Program is funding a Cabinet Making Workshop, hosted at Merriwa Central School. The course will be run by a provider from TAFE NSW, giving students hands on and practical skills in construction.

Students will be exhibiting school steers at Hupper Hunter Beef Bonanza. Permissions are due 25 September.

12 November -Child Studies Class and When I Grow Up Workshops

Merriwa Central School is excited to host "When I Grow Up!", a fun and interactive workshop for students from Kindergarten to Year 2, presented by our Educational Pathways Program and facilitated by MCS Child Studies students.

We look forward to providing our youngest learners with an exciting opportunity to learn, imagine and start thinking about "What will YOU be when you grow up?"

Students in Years 3 to 6 will travel by Cowans Bus from Merriwa Central School to Anna Bay area for and educational excursion to Stockton Sand Dunes

Book Week - Little Sprouts Reading Day

Date: August

Time: All day

Book Week is a special time at our school, celebrated through our Little Sprouts Community Reading Day. Students from Merriwa Central School join children from across the community to walk through town, visiting local businesses where community members read stories aloud. The day also includes visits to both the school library and the Town Library, helping foster a love of reading from an early age.

Time: Night performance from 6:00pm

Our annual Variety Night has always been held in conjunction with Education Week and is a spectacular night to showcase the talent and dedication of both students and staff.
