School events bring learning to life and help shape our school culture. They help students build confidence, connect with others and celebrate their progress. Events also give families a chance to be involved in school life and share in their child’s achievements.

June 2026
PI students will complete their farm and electric fencing competencies under the guidance of a local fencing contractor for the day. Students will build a new fence, put in strainer posts and stays, install gates and install an electric stand off wire. They will conduct a pre and post ooperational check on the tools they will use and demonstrate the correct way to transport tools.
Students in Years 3-6 will be participating in an exciting upcoming excursion to RAAF Base Williamtown, where they will have the opportunity to learn about the Royal Australian Air Force and explore aspects of aviation and defence. The day will conclude with a visit to the Newcastle Museum, where students will engage with interactive exhibits and deepen their understanding of history, science and innovation.
Students interested in exploring an SBAT with Muswellbrook Shire Council are invited to attend a taster day. Interested students will travel by car to Muswellbrook, transported by Mrs Hannon.
Selected students will be participating in the Festival of the Fleeces parade on Saturday, 6 June by walking the school Dohne wethers. Students will also be desensitising and preparing the wethers by regularly walking them between the Secondary and Primary Campuses, as well as through the playgrounds during break times.
Primary Star Struck students will travel to Newcastle to participate in the dress rehearsal and then the Star Struck Performance.
Year 12 have designed and ordered a Year 12 leavers jersey to commemorate their time at Merriwa Central School. The cost will be $99.00 each. Click on the link below for more information on sizing and ordering.
The University of Newcastle's Experiment Fest is a unique program designed for HSC students to improve their skills and knowledge using a hands-on approach for selected difficult experiments and concepts.
Infant students will travel out to Cassilis for a day of traditional games, yarning and coming together. We will recognise the First Nations histories and cultures. We come together through curiosity and gather as learners, to enjoy the company of others, from different schools, different backgrounds, to celebrate and recognise the Aboriginal histories and cultures of the lands where we learn. Selected secondary students will also attend to help on the day.

Year 11 Biology students will travel to the Awabakal Environmental Education Centre in Dudley to participate in fieldwork activities to meet with the requirements of the Module 3 Biology Syllabus.

Book Week - Little Sprouts Reading Day

Time: All day
Book Week is a special time at our school, celebrated through our Little Sprouts Community Reading Day. Students from Merriwa Central School join children from across the community to walk through town, visiting local businesses where community members read stories aloud. The day also includes visits to both the school library and the Town Library, helping foster a love of reading from an early age.
Education Week

Time: Night performance from 6:00pm
Our annual Variety Night has always been held in conjunction with Education Week and is a spectacular night to showcase the talent and dedication of both students and staff.
Festival of the Fleeces

P&C meeting
Date: First Tuesday of every month
Time: 6:30pm
Join our vibrant P&C. Meetings are held Tuesday of every month within the term at the Merriwa RSL Club. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
