August 2026

26 August 2026 - Upper Hunter Indigenous Talent Identification Day

Students will take part in an engaging, multi-sport session where they rotate through a range of activities, including sport-specific skill drills, modified games, and fitness testing. The day is designed to be fun and inclusive, giving every student the opportunity to showcase their abilities across different sports.

27 August 2026 - Year 10 into 11 Information Night

The process of planning for next year is about to start for Year 10 students, to consider all the options available to them. Step one is an Information Night for students and parents on the Higher School Certificate and the pathways available for our students. This evening will be held in the Secondary Library. After this, both you and your child will have a lot of infomration to consider regarding options for the senior school and career pathways.

27 August 2026 - Winds of Joy - Silver Class

Students are invited to join an exciting day excursion to Newcastle where they will participate in a unique sailing experience. Students will have the opportunity to lern essential sailing skills, assist with steering the boat and engage in hands-on activities under the guidance of experienced instructors. Students will be wearing life jackets at all times.

28 August 2026 - Little Sprouts

Our annual Community Reading Day - Little Sprouts will be held on Friday 28 Agusut and will celebrate this year's Book Week theme, "Symphony of Stories".

Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character or as an element from a favourite story that helps bring the Symphone of Stories to life.

28 August 2026 - Primary Regional Athletics Carnival Glendale

Merriwa Central School will be proudly represented by qualifying students at the 2026 Hunter Regional Athletics Carnival, held at Glendale Sporting Complex. Students will be transported by private vehicle and will need to pay a $5.00 entry fee CASH ONLY on arrival at the venue

31 August, 2026 - Primary Industries Fencing Day

Primary Industries students will complete their farm and electric fencing competencies under the guidance of a local fencing contractor for the day. Students will build a new fence, put in strainer posts and stays, install gates and install an electric stand off wire. They will conduct a pre and post operational check on the tools they will use and demonstrate the correct way to transport tools

September 2026

7 September - Tom Reynolds - Independent Drug Education Australia

Students in Years 8 and 9 will egage in a session with Tom Reynolds from Independent Drug Education Australia. The sessions are primarily aimed at providing the students with skills and strategies to protect themselves and friends in alcohol and other drug-related situations - prevention, harm reduction and what to do when things go wrong.

8 September - ChemCert Course

Students will receive a Statement of Attainment in Agricultural Chemical Application Skill Set, AHCCHM304 Transport and store chemicals and AHCCHM307 Prepare and apply chemicals to control pest, weeds and diseases. At the completion of the course students will receive a Chemicals Users Licence card. The program will be run over two days.

18 September - Springtime Show Stall

Throughout the end of Term 2 and into Term 3, our Secondary support students have been busy creating a variety of handmade crafts, which they will be selling at the Merriwa Apringtime Show on Friday 18 September.

October 2026

15 - 19 October 2026 - Interschools Horse Extravaganza

MCS is looking to enter a Team in the Interschools Horse Extravaganza Event at AELEC Tamworth. This is a Principal endorsed event and poses an Extreme Risk to any competitors. Attached to the permission note are the conditions of entry. Please ensure you read all documenation and sign the waiver attached.

Book Week - Little Sprouts Reading Day

Date: August

Time: All day

Book Week is a special time at our school, celebrated through our Little Sprouts Community Reading Day. Students from Merriwa Central School join children from across the community to walk through town, visiting local businesses where community members read stories aloud. The day also includes visits to both the school library and the Town Library, helping foster a love of reading from an early age.

Our annual Variety Night has always been held in conjunction with Education Week and is a spectacular night to showcase the talent and dedication of both students and staff.

Festival of the Fleeces

Date: June Long Weekend

The annual Running of the Sheep is a community event that Merriwa Central School are proud to be a part of.

P&C meeting

Date: First Tuesday of every month

Time: 6:30pm

Join our vibrant P&C. Meetings are held Tuesday of every month within the term at the Merriwa RSL Club. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
