School events bring learning to life and help shape our school culture. They help students build confidence, connect with others and celebrate their progress. Events also give families a chance to be involved in school life and share in their child’s achievements.

June 2026
Year 11 AG students will be attending "Illogan", a local family property to complete a farm case study associated with Assessment Task 2.
The University of Newcastle's Experiment Fest is a unique program designed for HSC students to improve their skills and knowledge using a hands-on approach for selected difficult experiments and concepts.
Infant students will travel out to Cassilis for a day of traditional games, yarning and coming together. We will recognise the First Nations histories and cultures. We come together through curiosity and gather as learners, to enjoy the company of others, from different schools, different backgrounds, to celebrate and recognise the Aboriginal histories and cultures of the lands where we learn. Selected secondary students will also attend to help on the day.
Our school will be celebrating NAIDOC Week with a K-12 Assembly held in the morning at the Secondary Campus. This assembly will bring our students, staff and families together to recognise and celebrate the history, culture and ahcievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend and join us for this special celebration.
Students aged 8 to 12 who have qualified for the Zone Athletics Carnival will travel by private vehicle to Rose Point Park, Singleton to represent Merriwa Central School.
Primary Industries students will complete their farm and electric fencing competencies under the guidance of a local fencing contractor for the day.
Excursion Information Permission Note
July 2026
Students will present the Dohne wethers that they have prepared at the Dohne competition in Orange. Students will have the opportunity to increase their knowledge on how body weight, eye muscle and fat, fleece and carcass are assessed at a competition level. Students will visit MacWool on the way home.
Classes from K-6 along with Secondary Support students will have the opportunity to perform on stage in front of family and friends during our annual Variety Night.
August 2026
Year 11 Biology students will travel to the Awabakal Environmental Education Centre in Dudley to participate in fieldwork activities to meet with the requirements of the Module 3 Biology Syllabus.
Students will attend the Young Drivers Expo at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre. This event promotes safe driving skills, road awareness, and responsibility among young drivers. Students will participate in interactive sessions, hear from industry experts and experience practical demonstrations focused on road safety.

Book Week - Little Sprouts Reading Day

Time: All day
Book Week is a special time at our school, celebrated through our Little Sprouts Community Reading Day. Students from Merriwa Central School join children from across the community to walk through town, visiting local businesses where community members read stories aloud. The day also includes visits to both the school library and the Town Library, helping foster a love of reading from an early age.

Time: Night performance from 6:00pm
Our annual Variety Night has always been held in conjunction with Education Week and is a spectacular night to showcase the talent and dedication of both students and staff.

The annual Running of the Sheep is a community event that Merriwa Central School are proud to be a part of.
P&C meeting
Date: First Tuesday of every month
Time: 6:30pm
Join our vibrant P&C. Meetings are held Tuesday of every month within the term at the Merriwa RSL Club. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
