English Report

English class

Year 8 English have been engaged in the work unit Aliens and Other Worlds. They have been exploring characters as diverse as aliens, vampires, witches, robots and so on. We are currently at the early stages of revising narrative writing which will help students in preparation for their writing folio assessment. Also, student workbooks have been collected and written feedback has been provided.

Year 10 English are studying a work unit focussed on the concept of Power. They have been examining the nature of power, how it is represented through texts and how it applies to our own lives. Students have been engaged in composing a variety of personal responses which will assist them in their writing folio assessment. Workbooks will be collected this week.

Year 11 English Studies are currently studying the unit Achieving Through English – English in Education, Work and Community. The students’ focus is presently on finding their place in the workforce and determining the skills they will require to undertake particular jobs. They have been accessing the Job Outlook website to this end.

Year 11 Standard English are engaged in the unit Reading to Write – Transition to Senior English. They have been examining the reciprocal nature of the relationship between reading and writing. Students have also been a variety of texts in order to respond to what a text is about and how the composer represents meaning through a variety of language features.
