Career opportunities for Aboriginal Students

Wollotuka I Believe

On Thursday June 25 Indigenous students in Years 7 and 8 attended an I Believe workshop run by the Wollotuka Institute from Newcastle University. The day was great for all the students to explore the different options that they could consider for their careers. It was a good introduction into all the aspects students need to consider for career planning and the fact that there are many different pathways into University.

Ray shared his own journey and talked about the fact that he is currently enrolling in a degree at the age of 40 and it is never too late to learn about something you are passionate about. The important message from the day was that you need to have a plan so that you do not end up doing nothing. The plan could be to work, go to TAFE, complete an apprenticeship or go to University but it is better to work towards a goal so that you are continuing to gain skills and learn so that you get closer to your ultimate dream. We would like to thank Ray for travelling for the day from Newcastle and we will look forward to his next visit to check in with how the students are going with their plans.
