This week in Science

students with models of animal and plant cell

In Science students have been busy observing and interpreting the natural world and making models to reflect their understanding.    During their cells topic, year 7 constructed animal and plant cell models from edible ingredients.  Various cakes were baked along with lollies in jelly to build these models.  These were then shared and eaten, of course.  Year 10 have taken to the conceptually difficult topic of genetics, aiming to understand how DNA is the base unit in heredity and the blueprint for the structures, functions and features of our bodies.  Later this term Year 7 gear up again to construct more models, this time of the solar system, as they study the earth, moon and sun and our place in space.  As always science is about takin an interest in our world, how it works, and being able to share our knowledge with others.
