This term in Year 7/8 English, our class has been learning about different types of poetry. The types of poems included acrostic, cinquain, colour and shape. We also looked at senses, performance and nonsense poetry. One of the more famous poets we studied was Michael Rosen. He specialises in performance poetry. Our favourite poem of his is “Chocolate Cake”. Inspired by this, we wrote our own senses poem about chocolate where we explored what eating chocolate cake looks like, sounds like, feels likes, tastes like and smells like. Check out our photos below of us all gathering some important data for our poems.
EXCERPT FROM CHOCOLATE CAKE BY MICHAEL ROSEN
downstairs
into the kitchen
open the cupboard
and there it is
all shining.
So I take it out of the cupboard
put it on the table
and I see that
there’s a few crumbs lying about on the plate,
so I lick my finger and run my finger all over the crumbs
scooping them up
and put them into my mouth.
oooooooommmmmmmmm
