GRIP News

On Monday, a group of student leaders from Year 6 travelled to Dubbo to participate in the GRIP Leadership Conference.  It was also terrific to share the day with the school captains from Cassilis Public School, Sophie and Dylan.

Lilly, Annabelle, Makayla, Makayla and Neveah represented Merriwa Central School very proudly and made many new friends amongst the 540 girls and boys from 46 other schools in Western Districts.

The girls participated in five leadership sessions with the over-riding goal to recognise that leadership is about people, not position or power.  They learned about the four character traits of a leader, and reflected on how they could make a difference back at Merriwa Central school.

“The day taught me that it’s my responsibility to be the best I can to other people” – Makayla Mobberley

“Confidence and being humble can go together” – Annabelle Orton

“Our school can have its own spirit” – Makaylah Coles

“I can be a good leader just by listening more” – Lily Swan

“You don’t have to be a loud person to be a great leader “ – Neveah Fetoai
