May 2026

6 May - Year 10 Work Experience/Parent Information Evening

On Wednesday 6 May, Year 10 students and their parents are invited to join us for an information evening in preparation for the Work Experience block occurring in Week 9 this Term. Ask questions, speak with our Careers Adviser and hear from local employers about the exciting opportunities available.

13 May - U16's Boys Touch Gala Day Dubbo

The U16's Boys Touch team will attend a Gala Day in Dubbo on Wednesday 13 May. Students will travel via school transport and participate in a series of touch football games against other schools throughout the day.

15 May - Secondary Athletics Carnival

The Secondary Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 15 May at Merriwa Oval 1 & 2. Students must attend school for roll call before walking to the oval with staff and will return to school in time for buses.

Students are encouraged to wear their house colours and dress up, and to participate in events for the opportunity to progress to Zone Athletics.

18 May - Bronze Award BBQ

In recognition of your child's outstanding achievement in our rewards system, we are delighted to invite you to celebrate this accomplishment at our Term 1 Bronze Award BBQ. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community and recognise all students who havve reached the Bronze Award level in Term 1.

RSVP for catering purposes is necessary.

20 May - UNE Farming Futures Program

Students will attend the Farming Futures day at the University of New England and have a tour of different agricultural enterprises. Please note student numbers are limited to 10.

28 May - Infants Visit to Hunter Valley Zoo

Infants students will be travelling to Hunter Valley Wildlife Park in Nulkaba for an exciting and educational day. During the visit, students will have the opportunity to explore the park, participate in engaging activities and encounter a variety of animals from around the world. This excursion will provide a fun, hands-on learning experience while encouraging curiosity about wildlife and the natural environment.

28 May - Vietnam RSL Excursion - Year 10 History

Year 10 History students will attend an excursion to the local RSL Club. During this visit, students will have the opportunity to meet and listen to three local Vietnam War Veterans, who will share their personal experiences and perspectives of the war.

29 May - K-6 Athletics Carnival

K-6 Athletics Carnival will be held on Friday 29 May at Merriwa Oval 1 and 2. Students will arrive at School and will then walk to the Merriwa Sports Oval at 9:10am.

Students are welcome to wear their house colours.

June 2026

4 June, 2026 - Yrs 3-6 Williamtown RAAF Base and Newcastle Museum

Students in Years 3-6 will be participating in an exciting upcoming excursion to RAAF Base Williamtown, where they will have the opportunity to learn about the Royal Australian Air Force and explore aspects of aviation and defence. The day will conclude with a visit to the Newcastle Museum, where students will engage with interactive exhibits and deepen their understanding of history, science and innovation.

15 June 2026 - Year 12 Biology Experiment Fest

The University of Newcastle's Experiment Fest is a unique program designed for HSC students to improve their skills and knowledge using a hands-on approach for selected difficult experiments and concepts.

Book Week - Little Sprouts Reading Day

Date: August

Time: All day

Book Week is a special time at our school, celebrated through our Little Sprouts Community Reading Day. Students from Merriwa Central School join children from across the community to walk through town, visiting local businesses where community members read stories aloud. The day also includes visits to both the school library and the Town Library, helping foster a love of reading from an early age.

Education Week

Time: Night performance from 6:00pm

Our annual Variety Night has always been held in conjunction with Education Week and is a spectacular night to showcase the talent and dedication of both students and staff.

Festival of the Fleeces

Date: June Long Weekend

The annual Running of the Sheep is a community event that Merriwa Central School are proud to be a part of.

P&C meeting

Date: First Tuesday of every month

Time: 6:30pm

Join our vibrant P&C. Meetings are held Tuesday of every month within the term at the Merriwa RSL Club. Parents and carers are welcome to attend.
