Students working at the Ag Farm

Students have been busy this term with preparing the land for pasture production.  In winter we planted oats and perennial rye grass to supplement feed for our animals.  In Term 4 students will be undertaking a program in wool production.  As a result the school had to sell the dorper sheep which are bred for meat only and purchased the white Suffolk sheep which are dual purpose (meat and wool).

If you drive past the school farm you will notice that the scarecrows are back again.  The scarecrow program is managed by our Year 7/8 Technology students.  We at Merriwa Central School do take our Agriculture very seriously and as a result this subject has proved to be popular amongst our students.

The Steer Team have been busy preparing the steers for the Merriwa Show which will be held in September 20, 21 and 22.

We value the support we receive from the local community and those in the agricultural sector.

I would like to acknowledge Mr Col Bates for his continued support in our programs especially in animal production.  Mr Tim Sawley, our agronomist from Landmark is also acknowledged for supporting agriculture education at our school especially in plant production.  Other local businesses such as Elders and CRT Merriwa are also acknowledged for their support in providing goods and services to the agriculture faculty at our school.
